What is Peace Silk ?

The loveliest way to wear silk

Peace Silk means: non-violent silk breeding and production. It allows the metamorphosis of the silkworm to a butterfly to be completed so that no animal has to suffer or die for fashion.

Peace Silk (non-violent silk also called Ahimsa Silk) is manufactured under the strictest social and environmental standards in India.

Silkworm breeding takes place in natural conditions. The trees in which the silkworms grow are not treated with any fungicides, insecticides or genetic sprays.

To protect the caterpillars and leaves from other insects or birds, the entire tree is covered with a net, similar to a mosquito net.

Once the silkworms have spun the cocoons, they are kept in a sheltered place until the pupa emerges from the cocoon as a beautiful butterfly.

This process can take 2 to 4 weeks. This particular method slows down production, but is fundamental to our philosophy of non-violently manufacturing silk. Once the butterflies have left their cocoons, the cocoons are processed without the use of harmful chemicals.

Peace Silk is the alternative for people who care about the lives of animals, for people who appreciate the queen of natural fibers.

GENTLE ON SKIN AND HAIR

Fabrics made from Peace Silk add shine to hair and prevent breakage (e.g. when you sleep on a silk pillow). The silk's smooth surface allows hair and skin to lieterally slide over it, reducing tension and tugging. The chemical structure of silk is very similar to the skin and is therefore the most skinfriendly fabric and particularly ideal for allergy sufferers. Silk has a skin-soothing and anti-inflammatory effect.

WE LOVE BUTTERFLIES

Peace Silk means: non-violent silk breeding and production. It allows the metamorphosis of silkworm to butterfly to be completed so that no animal suffers or dies to create the fabrics, clothing or bedding. Peace Silk (non-violent silk, Ahimsa Silk) is manufactured under the strictest social and environmental standards in India.

FREE OF POLLUTANTS

No fungicides, herbicides or GMO products are used in the production of our silk fabrics and silk products. The silk is produced according to one of the currently strictest organic textile standards. All production companies are certified. In addition, at no point in the process is there even a chemical treatment of the yarns and fibers from which the fabric is made.

FAIR & SUSTAINABLE

We support our partners in India in changing social conditions. The manual production of the silk yarns and fabrics takes place with the involvement of disadvantaged groups of women in the villages and we actively help that children in Jharkhand can attend school. Most of our fabrics and products are GOTS certified. This guarantees the highest possible standard for ecological and social sustainability

SATIN & BOURETTE

Due to its very fine and smooth fiber structure, satin silk falls supple and soft and is equally suitable for clothing and fine bed linen. The high proportion of silk glue (sericin) in bourette silk has a skin-soothing and anti-inflammatory effect. Bourette silk is therefore used in particular for diaper and nursing pads as well as baby clothing, shirts and robust bed linen.

BENEFICIAL FOR DISEASES

Silk is the most skin-like fiber and has many unique properties. It is soft, protects against too much heat and too much cold, absorbs moisture and releases it again, is very tear-resistant and therefore very durable. Refined with peat fibers, the fabric has a warming, revitalizing effect and has therefore long been used in the treatment of rheumatic, sclerotizing forms of illness.
