Peace Silk from India

Seidentraum introduces itself (PDF)...

Have a look to the flip book "Organic Silk by Seidentraum"...

The rise of mass fashion is largely responsible for the destruction of the environment and social conditions in many parts of our world. Seidentraum is committed to a change in textile production that respects nature and man. It's the only way to keep our earth and the fashion industry alive.

Our Mission

We support our partners in India in changing social conditions. The artisanal production of silk yarns and fabrics takes place with the involvement of disadvantaged women's groups in the villages and we actively help to ensure that children can attend school in Jharkhand.

We trade exclusively with Peace Silk! Peace Silk means: The silkworm can complete its metamorphosis and fly as a beautiful butterfly out of the cocoon. No animal suffers from the production of silk clothing and other wonderful textiles. No silkworm dies during the usual drying of the cocoons by hot steam or boiling water.

Our organic textiles made of mulberry, eri and tussah silk are from organic farming in India and Cambodia. Many of the silkworm food plants grow naturally in the area. The cultivation of the mulberry trees takes place in a sustainable mixed culture with fruit and other trees. The negative impact of a monoculture on soil and the environment will thus be avoided and biodiversity will be maintained. Artificial fertilizers, antibiotics and growth-promoting hormones are consistently dispensed with.

Our Peace Silk (Ahimsa Silk, non-violent silk) is manufactured under strict social and environmental standards and is mostly certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). This guarantees the highest possible standard for ecological and social sustainability.

We are committed to transforming the fashion industry - away from cheap and unhealthy disposable clothing that lasts only a few months - to durable, sustainable yet fashionable textiles made by skilled craftsmen.

We are committed to driving consumer awareness, exploring the conditions under which their garments are made, and demonstrating the benefits of sustainable, healthy and fair textiles.

Be yourself the change,
you wish for this world.

(after Mahatma Gandhi)

Concerning the GOTS certification of our textiles we want point out:

Silk fabrics with the denomination "manufacturd according GOTS" are produced in accordance with the highest organic textile standard, the GLOBAL ORGANIC TEXTILE STANDARD. All mills are GOTS certified (spinning, dyeing, weaving, stitching, knitting). As the chain of dealers is not completely certified we can not label these fabrics as "GOTS certified". Nevertheless it is high grade organic quality that guarantees the highest possible level for ecological and social sustainibility. The textile chain from the silk rearing to the counter is eco-friendly, sustainable and fair.

The issue of TCs for these silk fabrics is unfortunately, because of the regulations of the GOTS, not possible.
